Amelia O'Halloran
I am a Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN+) in the Sociology Department at Harvard University.
My work uses primarily quantitative methods and focuses on neighborhood trust, urbanization, domestic violence, incarceration, residential mobility, and deviance.
I studied computer science at Brown University; I also hold an MPhil from the University of Cambridge in Digital Humanities.

Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow
Harvard University Sociology Department: July 2024 - Present
I work as a Pre-Doctoral Fellow with Professor Robert Sampson on the Project for Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN+). I worked closely with Professor Sampson on his upcoming book, Marked by Time (2026), including creating figures, editing chapters, and writing sections of the manuscript. I also contributed to and edited multiple published papers, gathered and analyzed data from multiple sources (PHDCN+ survey data, CDC data, Chicago Police Department data), and wrote grant reports and proposals. I am an organizer of Harvard's Urban Data Lab within the Sociology Department.
Researcher
University of Cambridge's Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy: October 2023 - July 2024
I worked as a Researcher with Sociology professor Gina Neff at the University of Cambridge. I performed expert interviews and literature reviews to write a whitepaper on AI risks for Responsible AI UK. I also independently led a research project mapping global Responsible AI groups to develop collaborative ties.
Digital Business Analyst
McKinsey & Company: August 2021 – May 2023
I focused on uplifting organizations’ cybersecurity, trust, and privacy, including the following projects:
- Designated team lead, managing a team of analysts to develop and facilitate a cybersecurity strategy workshop for 15+ CISOs of major medical organizations.
- Guided a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer to implement cybersecurity initiatives to uplift customer safety. Wrote cybersecurity and privacy standards and procedures in English and Mandarin.
- Guided a leading global bank through a regulatory response to a federal cybersecurity inquiry.
